A 5 day festival presenting the National Skate Championship, KPWT Kiteboarding World Tour, Music Festival, Art & Photography exhibitions

Cabarete Summer Festival 2009 overview

Cabarete is amongst the most amazing spots for activities, sports and adventure, and there’s no limit to the tributes that should be put in place for this incredible Caribbean beach town, or for the island of the DR itself. .
The wind and the ocean is what makes this little place a unique mecca for kiters, surfers, windsurfers, skateboarders and a huge range of other sports activities. There’s no time for boredom in this place, and its diverse selection of shopping possibilities and nightlife makes it the perfect place for any desire.

The idea of Cabarete Summer Festival was born out of passionate minds all hooked on these sports and the lifestyle of Cabarete. Slowly forming into something highly doable, the event is now on the edge of becoming a reality in July 2009, after more than a year of brainstorming and mapping out promising ideas and possibilities.
Finally, the ideas have become a reality on the drawing board and more people have been involved to make sure to present a diverse festival of sports and culture from all around the world. A celebration to passion and good living!

A Connection Point

The goal of Cabarete Summer Festival is to join together and promote the different aspects of every day life of Cabarete. As we are celebrating the culture and life here, local and international artists have been brought in to the project to deliver a collection of art and photography from around the world. We are honouring local artists and inviting foreign artists to share cultural and artistic work and paint a picture of the cultural melting pot that Cabarete is.

One of the invited artists is Argentinean Adela Kein, with her exhibition”de incógnito tras la camara" from her travels in Europe.

We also want to honour the sports in the same way, by uniting kiteboarding and skateboarding in the same event. Cabarete Summer Festival is presenting the national skateboarding championship and an international kiteboarding championship through five days of athletes competing for the top spots of the podiums. Both championships will be handled and organized by their respective organizations, which opens new doors for future collaboration and new opportunities.

But what is a festival without music?! As yet another tribute to Cabarete and good living, Cabarete Summer Fest has lined up a five day music marathon in the middle of all the fun. With skateboarders and kiteboarders surrounding each side of the stage, bands from around the world deliver their artistry in the name of rock, pop, reggae and more. The Summer Festival brings together music from Europe, USA and of course the Dominican Republic.

Rock band Peel is currently ranked amongst the top 5 of this year hit bands in Northern Europe and are on the play list of more than 100 radio stations in Europe and the US.

Fronting the local business life
It is a goal for Cabarete Summer Festival to promote and front the local Cabarete business life, and we are inviting local shops and restaurants to take part in the five day fiesta. Let’s make room for showing off each and every side to the local life! We want to offer the festival participants a complete package of food, drinks, products, music, arts and sports, which after all is what Cabarete is about.
We hope to see nothing but big smiles and dancing guests throughout the five days of cheering, eating, listening and enjoying the good things in life.

The Area
The Cabarete Summer Fest has set eyes on the most perfect location for executing a proper festival. The beautiful beach connecting Cabarete town with Kite Beach offers everything a festival like this can wish for. Lots of space, green and grassy areas with palm trees and shade, access to electricity and parking, easy access from both Cabarete town and Kite Beach, perfect kiteboarding conditions and lots more. The beach is Punta Goleta Beach, being supported by The Punta Goleta project.
The Summer Fest organizers have mapped out placements of each module of the beach, making sure each module has its perfect setup.
The music festival is set up so that it will serve both championships with live music throughout the show.
The mobile skate park will be assembled off the beach on the grassy area to prevent sand and wind from disrupting the riders. One ramp will be available at the beach outside of the competition area.
The kiteboarding competition will be executed on the upwind side of the beach, which has been established by a professional group of kiteboarders to be the erfect location and conditions for these means. A mobile slider park is available to the Summer Fest for a one day show. The sliders will not be a part of the KPWT championship.
The art exhibition will be assembled in a separate tent with proper lighting and decoration for the ultimate experience of the art presented.
The photography exhibition will follow the same standards as the art exhibition, but presented in it’s separate tent.
The exhibitions will be set up on each side of the music stage.
The local business life is invited to present their products, food and drinks in dedicated tents/casitas that can be rented from the Summer Fest organization. A small fee will be applied to reserve space.
